Albania - Greek Diaspora History Articles

The Greek diaspora history in Albania spans almost 3,000 years, with the ancient Greek Kingdom of Epirus having close ties with the ancient Illyrian Kingdom – located in present day Albania. Today, the northern part of the historic region of Epirus, known as Northern Epirus, is located in Albania with many Greeks still living there. The Greek community is recognised as one of the ethnic groups in Albania, predominantly located in the cities of Sarandë, Gjirokastër, Delvinë, and Himara. Currently, approximately 300,000 people in Albania claim Greek ethnicity, with Greeks being the largest of the minority Albanian ethnic groups.

In the articles below, you’ll learn the history of your family and other Greek Albanian ethnic groups, as well as the impact of your ancestors in Albania.
