The Greek diaspora history in the United States (U.S.) spans almost 500 years, with the largest number of Greek Americans living in New York City, Boston, and Chicago. Today the U.S. is home to the largest Greek diaspora community. The Greek population in the U.S. is currently estimated at approximately 1.3 million, with some estimates reaching 3 million. The most substantial number of the Greek diaspora arrived in the U.S. between the mid-1800s and Greece’s admission to the European Union in 1981.
